Briarwood Bugle 2019
Week 4

From Mike and Matt
Can you believe that camp is half way done? We sure can’t! We had another amazing and HOT week—lower and upper camp bunk shows, Halloween in July (great costumes!), intercamp sports, CIT and Super CIT trips and much, much more.
We’ve got more amazingness next week– Bring-A-Friend, new clubs, CIT trip to the beach, Super CIT trip to Busch Gardens, Goofy Day and our 2nd Annual and Totally Amazing and Fun Briarwood All-Camp Gaga Tournament! It is open to everyone and the winner in each division will get a championship belt. (Really!) It’s a fun time!
And still to come, Busy Bee Show, Carnival, Color War, the list goes on and on….

Meet the Bobcats by CJ Horan
With week 4 coming to an end, there are already so many memories and more to come this summer. The Bobcats are a bunk full of energy ready to run around and play. There are a lot of boys but they’re all so unique that you’ll remember each of them. All of these boys will put a smile on your face with Ben, Marcus, and Landon doing all of their crazy pool jumps. Then we have Ryan, Henry, Rownan, Marco, and Dylan who are always willing to play any sport and give you all their effort. We have Alex who is always our knockout champion. Andrew and Nicholas always have a smile on their face. And then we have Brody and Caleb who act like they never want to go to free swim, but will always stay in until the third whistle. The Bobcats will always keep you on your toes trying to keep up with them, but that’s the best part of having a bunk on The Hill.
You’re a Good Otter, Charlie Brown! By Howard Gottlieb
Good grief! It has been an otterly amazing first four weeks of camp so far. I, along with our Junior Counselor, Bryce, have been having a blast with this otterly outstanding group of Otters. The Otters have just come off their Tony Award winning performance at the Lower Camp Bunk Show and will begin their national tour after camp ends. In the meantime, the Otters have been playing dodgeball every chance they can get. In fact, it is Brett and Liam’s favorite activity at camp. Ayden is always sinking the big shot at basketball. Lucas and Blake keep getting hat tricks at hockey. Dylan enjoys swimming like the true otter that he is at the pool. Vincent has been knocking everyone out at gaga. James has been scoring goal after goal at soccer. We have lost count of all the hole-in-ones that Hugo and Logan have made at mini-golf. As you can see, we have been having an otterly awesome time. We all are looking forward to four more otterly exciting weeks of camp!

Congratulations to Doubles Tennis Tournament Winners:
1st place Matt AND Aiden from the CITs/Super cits
2nd place Elias and Mason from the lions
3rd place Lexi and becca from the foxes

BRIARWOOD STAFF MEMBERS OF THE WEEK:

Meet the Briarwood Counselors

JESSIE GOTTLIEB is celebrating her 15th amazing summer at Briarwood Day Camp and first summer as senior counselor to the Owls. Jessie is an Education major at West Chester University. Jessie’s favorite thing about Briarwood is her campers. People would be surprised to learn that she was the last baby born in the Philadelphia area in the 20th century.
LAUREN ROSENFELD returns to Briarwood Day Camp as senior counselor in Ceramics. This is her 7th summer at Briarwood, having spent summers here as a camper and junior counselor. Lauren has two daughters at camp, who are loving spending their summer days at Briarwood. If she could go anywhere, Lauren would go to a spa to relax.
STEVE PIERCE joins the Briarwood Day Camp family as a lifeguard at the lower pool. During the off season, Steve is a middle school guidance counselor. Steve has three children who leave camp happy, healthy, dirty, tired and rarin’ for more every day! Steve loves watching Stranger Things and The Walking Dead. At camp, Steve’s most definitely alive!
SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS
• If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. • Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.
• While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
• Apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
• Our lost and found is located behind the sports shed.
• Did you miss a Bugle? You can find all of this summer’s Bugles in the news section of our website.
