Briarwood Bugle 2026
Week 7

From Mike and Matt
It was yet another wonderfully stupendous week! (Can you believe it? Actually, we can.)

Color War ended spectacularly, as always.  A smiling good time was had by all. Congratulations to the Gold Superstars!

We wanted to highlight something about our Color War events because it is at the core of our philosophy.  Our activities are designed so that every camper is involved and gets to shine.  Through a wide variety of events, different campers kick, swim, dance, run, throw, sing, climb, run, carry, and—most importantly—cheer for each other and have fun all over camp.  It’s wonderful, positive, affirming stuff.  And again this summer, our amazing campers and staff showed us what camp is really all about.

We’ve got so many awesome things planned for next week (see below as well as page 4 for just a taste).  We absolutely can’t wait!

SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS:
• If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message. Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day. Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.
• Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.
• While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.
• Everyone should apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.
• We have a lost and found at camp. It gets pretty full this time of year. Campers’ items should be marked or labeled before they come to camp.
• Did you miss a Bugle? You can find all of this summer’s Bugles in the news section of our website.

Even in this spectacularly fantastic and completely amazing last week of camp,
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not send your camper to Briarwood if he/she is not feeling well.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT: This week we feature more of our amazing rookie senior staff members!

GRACE WALDOV is loving her first year at Briarwood and making new friends! During the school year, she attends The University of Alabama. Her favorite food is hot dogs-especially the ones from Briarwood! Her favorite TV show is Gilmore Girls. If she could be any animal, she would be a capybara (ed. note: the capybara is the world’s largest living rodent and it is native to South America. See? The Bugle is entertaining AND informative!). If she could go anywhere in the world, she’d go to Brazil. Woof woof—people don’t know that Grace has 3 dogs!

BRADY SWEENEY is another first timer here at Briarwood Day Camp and we are so happy to have him! His favorite thing about camp is the people he’s met! During the offseason, Brady is a student at Sacred Heart University. Brady, a former Briarwood Counselor of the Week, loves to eat penne vodka and his favorite movie is Cars 2. If he could travel anywhere, he would go to Ireland.

Busy Bees Science, Nature and Sensory Exploration by Alexis McNulty
Our Busy Bees always BUZZZZ toward their hive to see what new and exciting things wait for them for science, cooking and sensory exploration! This year, they started their first week learning about seeds and what they need in order to grow and thrive. The bees planted their own seeds to grow and give to their family as a bunk show gift and also planted flowers to decorate our beehive for the summer. Week two and three are always super fun with lots of ice and snow play and ocean exploration. Everyone can’t get enough of what has become a new tradition, lemonade in a bag! Ask your Busy Bee how to make it. I’m sure they would love to do it at home!

The first three weeks were super fun BUT, week 4 is always much anticipated! Making slime and chocolate covered spiders during Halloween week is always a crowd favorite! This summer, we added a fun new farm theme! As our summer begins to wind down, they will explore things that sink and float and make delicious banana boats! But we can’t forget a rainbow of colors! Busy bees love using their droppers, funnels, test tubes to mix colored water during water play. We will be ending our summer in Briarwood tradition, making birdfeeders and one of everyone’s favorite cooking activities, Rice Krispie Treats birds nests! Our Busy Bees love science and sensory exploration at Briarwood Day Camp!

♫ Learn the Briarwood Song! ♫ We sing it at camp!

Spectacular Swans! by Alana Frajerman
We have had such a great summer in the Swans and can’t believe how fast it has gone! If you’re looking for our flock around camp Marissa, Zoey, and Olivia can be found scoring goals at indoor soccer. Harper makes a splash in the pool, Nayla is serving on the tennis courts, Gabi shines on the drama stage, Alana flips through gymnastics, Avery and Jo Jo dance their hearts out, Charlotte slams the ball in the soccer net, and Chelsea, Abby, and Ally are Gaga superstars. The girls, JC Katie and I are looking forward to making the most of our final week together!
