Briarwood Bugle 2021 Week 3

From Mike and Matt Time flies when you are having fun . . . We had another great week! Camp barreled along and the kids had a great time swimming, playing, painting, gimping, Zoom Flooming and everything else! And also—Wednesday Themeday was Red, White and Blue Day , the CITs went to Tyler State Park (and played a raucous game of Hungry, Hungry Hippos), s’mores at nature, the Busy Bees watched flowers bloom at the Busy Bee Garden, we had our first of two Briarwood Set a Record weeks, and all around camp, you could see and hear bunks practicing their bunk shows. We have a ton going on in the next few weeks—Lower Camp Bunk Shows, Upper Camp Bunk Shows, Halloween in July, Crazy Hat Day, The Briarwood Fishing Derby—plus all of our awesome, regularly scheduled program—art, sports, swimming, gymnastics, nature, rock wall and much, much more! PLEASE NOTE: We will unfortunately have no visitors at the Bunk Shows (or at the Busy Bee Show) but they will be recorded and made available at a later date

The Cobras By Jaren Coleman Welcome to the Cobra bunk! “WE ARE, THE HILL!” Briarwood 2021 has had an electric start to this summer for the 5th grade Cobras. We’ve been having an amazing summer, especially in the ga-ga pit, on the wiffleball field, the basketball court, and hockey rink. Our bunk is full of athletes and creative minds who like to have fun all day long. The Cobras have limitless talent and interests. Oliver, Adrian, and Dylan hitting moon shots and making spectacular plays on the wiffleball field. Jacob and Micah breaking ankles and getting buckets on the basketball court. Daniel “California” and Ethan catching and juking out the defenders on the football field. Hunter and Ryan tearing it up and scoring goals in the hockey rink. Ashton “Cash” and Brandon swimming like they are going to compete in the Olympics this year in the pool. Jacob, Dean, and Rocky “The Rock” jumping like kangaroos on the jumper. It has been a great start at Briarwood. Junior Counselor Aiden Stepansky and I are looking forward to a fun summer making memories that will last a lifetime!

The Funky Flying Hawks By Stuart Berman The Hawks are back and better than ever after a camp-less summer! They are making themselves known all throughout camp. These first three weeks have flown by, and as a bunk we work hard to make sure every day is more fun than the last. Lucas, Trevor and Brett love to start their day off with some great games of gaga, especially with CITs Landon and Evan. Liam dominated the Briarwood 9, winning the first annual Briarwood Mini Golf Tournament for our 3rd Grade Boys Division. Enzo, Dylan, and Ayden express their amazing artistic skills in the Art and Ceramics room leaving everyone curious as to what they will make next. Vinny, Ben, and Mark are always the first up the rock wall, energetic and excited to come flying down the zipline on the other side. Logan, Cole and Cam excel at playing wiffleball or tennis racket baseball, and they are always seen making impressive catches or hitting a home run at bat. Having fun at all of these other activities, it still seems to be nature where these boys truly thrive, catching so many fish it is hard to keep count. Max and I are so excited to come to camp every morning to see what the day has in store for us, and we can’t wait to see what else these boys are going to do. Keep your eye out for the most exciting bunk at Briarwood, the Hawks!

MEET THE BRIARWOOD STAFF PART III!

RYAN ALBUCK is celebrating her 16th summer at Briarwood Day Camp and her first summer as senior counselor. Ryan (along with co-senior counselor Rachel Krekstein) can be found leading the Orioles as they fly all over camp. Ryan is a student at West Chester University. She loves coming back to Briarwood every summer since she was a 3-year-old Cricket. Ryan’s favorite thing about Briarwood is the family-like community and the awesome campers. People would be surprised to learn that Ryan can sing the ABCs backwards!

RACHEL KREKSTEIN joins the Briarwood family as senior counselor to the Orioles. Rachel and her co-senior counselor, Ryan Albuck, are loving their lower camp girls bunk! Rachel, a student at William and Mary College, is studying Neuroscience. If she could go anywhere in the world, Rachel would travel to Australia. Rachel’s favorite thing about Briarwood are the awesome people! And the kangaroos.

TYLER BRUNO can be found gazing down upon everyone at Briarwood—Tyler is enjoying his first summer at camp as a senior counselor at the top of the rock wall and ropes course. During the off-season Tyler attends Valley Forge Military Academy and College. Tyler also trains with the National Guard and is a volunteer at his local fire department. If Tyler could travel anywhere in the world, he would go to Italy.

LISA ANTENUCCI joins the Briarwood staff as a new lifeguard at the lower pool. Lisa’s daughter, though, has been here for 10 years! Lisa, a graduate of Widener University, is a personal care assistant in the Central Bucks School District. If she were an animal she would be a flamingo. Lisa’s favorite things about camp are making new friends and the amazing activities and the pool!

STUART BERMAN is celebrating his 4th summer at Briarwood. Stu, senior counselor to the Hawks, is a student at Syracuse University. Stu’s favorite thing about Briarwood is the Sports Complex. Stu’s favorite movie is Pitch Perfect. If he could go anywhere in the world, he would travel to Tel Aviv, Israel.

REBECCA NAHOM joins the Briarwood Day Camp family as a senior counselor at gymnastics. Rebecca is mom to 4 children, 3 of them are enjoying their first summer at Briarwood. Rebecca, a graduate of Buffalo State University, is a travel agent during the off season. If she could go anywhere in the world, she would travel to Israel to see her family.
