Briarwood Bugle 2022
Week 7

From Mike and Matt

It was yet another amazing week! (Can you believe it? Actually, we can.)

Color War ended spectacularly, as always.  A smiling good time was had by all. Congratulations to the Blue Nifty 50’s!

We wanted to highlight something about our Color War events because it is at the core of our philosophy.  Our activities are designed so that every camper is involved and gets to shine.  Through a wide variety of events, different campers kick, swim, dance, run, throw, sing, climb, run, carry, and—most importantly—cheer for each other and have fun all over camp.  It’s wonderful, positive, affirming stuff.  And again this summer, our amazing campers and staff showed us again what camp is really all about. We’ve got so many awesome things planned for next week (see below for just a taste).  Can’t wait!

Tiger Tales! By Jackson Gottlieb

The Tigers are having a tigerly awesome summer at Briarwood Day Camp. Everywhere you look, you can find them all over camp. Mason, Max, Alex, Jacob, and Cooper are at gaga, playing throughout the camp day. Meanwhile, Chase, Koa, Aidan, and Jack are climbing around at rock wall. Elsewhere in camp, Nick, Jackson, Lucas, Jordan fish the day away at Nature. Every one of the Tigers are having a blast, and we cannot wait to see what amazing things this last week has in store for the Tigers!

Jayson’s favorite thing about Briarwood is color war. His favorite food is popcorn chicken. If Jayson could travel anywhere in the world he would go to Europe and visit the United Kingdom, Italy and Germany.

STUART BERMAN returns for his 5th summer at Briarwood Day Camp. Stu, a student at Syracuse University, enjoys playing basketball and watching movies during his spare time. His favorite thing about Briarwood Day Camp. Stu’s favorite thing about Briarwood is the Sports Complex. If he could travel anywhere in the world he would go to Barcelona.

GEORGIA GOBORA is the outstanding senior counselor of the Flamingos. Georgian began making Briarwood her summer home when she was a 4 year old in the Cottontails bunk. Georgia, a graduate of Penn State and the University of Pennsylvania, teaches during the off season. If she were an animal she would be an emu. People would be surprised to learn that Georgia was born in London.

RYHEEM POWELL makes his triumphant return to Briarwood for his third season. Ryheem, a graduate of Susquehanna University, plays professional rugby during the off season. Ryheem’s favorite thing about Briarwood is that it is one large family who are open and accepting of everyone. Ryheem’s favorite TV show is The Office. The Panthers by Ashley Levy

Happy Friday from the Panthers! We have had the best summer so far, and we can’t believe that it’s already the end of the 7th week. Some of our summer highlights are bunk show (get money twice!!), several bull in ones (bullseyes), and playing hide and seek during 7th grade fun (with the Jaguars). The theme of the summer has been kindness, and the girls have done an awesome job of helping, working together, and spreading the love. We’ve spent a ton of time with our third-grade buddies, and we’ve loved mentoring them each week. Sofia, Liv and I are so sad that the summer is coming to an end soon, but we can’t wait for the 8th week together!!

SOME FRIENDLY BRIARWOOD REMINDERS

If you want to reach your camper’s counselor during the camp day, call the office at 215-598-7143 and we will gladly relay your message.

Please do not TEXT or CALL your child’s counselor directly during the camp day.  Our counselors are busy watching children and we have asked them not to check their phones during the day.

Early and Late Care is available from 7:30 am—6:00 pm sharp. Please call the office if you will need this service.

While it never rains at Briarwood, in the event of a passing shower, please send your camper with the appropriate rain gear should the forecast call for rain.

Everyone should apply sunscreen daily prior to coming to camp.

We have a lost and found at camp. It gets pretty full this time of year.  Campers’ items should be marked or labeled before they come to camp.

Did you miss a Bugle? You can find past Bugles on the front page of our website.

PLEASE DO NOT SEND YOUR CAMPER TO CAMP IF HE OR SHE IS NOT FEELING WELL.
