The Importance Of Unplugging At Summer Camp – Especially in 2021

Mike Green

Owner / Director

Kids have been cooped up for too long. They need fresh air. They need to see and make friends. They need to be active.

THEY NEED TO UNPLUG!

At Briarwood Day Camp, we have always believed in the power of unplugged fun in the sun. We have always believed that giving kids extended time that is free from electronics is crucial for them to learn how to interact, to have fun and to grow.

Now, in light of the pandemic, unplugging our kids is more important than ever.

Unplugged Friends Are Better Friends

Children learn better ways to socialize when they are face to face. They need to be able to look each other in the eye. Face to face. In person. When they are in person, kids can make better friends, they can better learn to adapt to new situations and they get to experience more fun and exciting things. Outside! Fresh air! Kids should be allowed to be kids!

Kids Learn Creativity, Patience and Delayed Gratification When They Are Off of Screens

Computers, tablets and phones can deliver instant satisfaction to boredom. However, we all know that growth comes when people can take a deep breath, slow down and have the opportunity to think. When we unplug our kids, we allow them the opportunity to be creative, to learn patience and to problem solve. Our children benefit when we give them unplugged time – they learn invaluable life skills.

Being Unplugged Means More Activity, Less Stress and More Confidence

When we unplug and move around, we burn off extra energy and stress. Our muscles get to relax in a way that they cannot while hunched over a computer or squinting into a phone or tablet. When we run around – or swim – or climb – or anything else kids do at camp – we get to experience a “good” tired. We sleep better. And we develop a confidence that comes from problem solving, from physical exertion and from achievement.

At Briarwood Day Camp, unplugged fun in the sun is what we do. Interested in learning more? Give us a call at 215 598 7143 or email us at office@briarwooddaycamp.com  Your child’s unplugged summer of a lifetime awaits!
