Why Summer Camp Is Great For Preschoolers!

Mike Green & Anne Witkin

Owner/Director & Associate Director/Busy Bee Director

Summer camp is the best thing you can do for your preschooler.  We all know that little kids are like sponges – so don’t we want them soaking up great stuff?  Instead of being inside, in front of screens, hauled around on errands and begging for the next one-on-one playdate, camp kids are outside, running around, making friends and learning new things.  Supervised by warm, caring, experienced staff, camp provides more building blocks for kids to continue to grow in ways you can’t believe. Camp parents can’t believe their eyes!

Camp Promotes Socialization

Kids mix seamlessly at summer camp and all kids make new friends each summer.  Socialized to try new things and led by experienced teachers and other professionals, our preschool campers – we call them Busy Bees – learn to get along with their peers in new ways that aren’t always possible in preschool.  Camp kids really grasp that everyone is different and everyone has something to add.

Camp is Outdoor Fun

Can we all agree that kids spend too much time inside and/or in front of screens?  At Briarwood, our preschool campers are outside and in the fresh air, learning about all the fun things there are to do that don’t involve the Disney Channel, an iPad or their parents’ phones.  Whether it’s soccer, paddle boating, the playground, gaga, art, the sandbox, wiffle ball or any of the other 50 activities we do, kids see that the most fun thing is to go out and DO.

Swimming, Swimming, Swimming

Kids should be water safe – as parents, we all worry about our young kids near pools or the ocean.  Swimming is a life skill that we all take very seriously at camp. At Briarwood, our preschoolers go to the pool every day. Our Red Cross certified lifeguards have taught literally thousands of kids to swim.  Whether it’s simply getting accustomed to the water or blowing bubbles or mastering strokes, all campers end the summer much more water safe than they were when they arrived at the beginning of the summer. And we’re very proud of that.

The Learning Doesn’t Stop at Briarwood Day Camp

Hey, just because kids are at camp doesn’t mean they aren’t learning too. At Briarwood, our Busy Bees still get storytime, they learn about science and nature, they learn about cooking and so much more.  And they have a great time doing it!
