Summer camp is a place for fun. It’s a place to try new things. It’s a time to make memories. At Briarwood Day Camp, in addition to our “regular” fun, different and memorable activities that kids don’t usually get to do – like gaga, the adventure course and the fabulous jumper – every summer we have specially scheduled events and traditions that our campers love, enjoy and remember.

COLOR WAR
Briarwood campers and staff love Color War! What is it? We’ll summarize (or click here for a longer explainer).
Campers and staff are divided into a Blue Team and a Gold Team for a fun and spirited week of friendly competition. Teams compete in all kinds of games, swim races, water balloon tosses, fishing derbies, Human Hungry, Hungry Hippo contests (whaaaat?), and more. Everyone looks forward to our camp-wide crazy relay race that culminates with the Frozen T-Shirt Competition (you need to see it to believe it). Other big events include our counselor-led skits and we conclude with the all camp Song (and dance) Fest on the last day. Whew!
After the final score is announced, everyone cheers and then we resume our day with smiles and a dance party. A great time is had by all!
COUNSELOR OF THE WEEK
(featuring an appearance by Boomer, our camp mascot)
Briarwood campers love Counselor of the Week – it’s an opportunity for the whole camp to get together each Friday, see and maybe have pictures taken with our mascot Boomer , recognize our amazing staff (hold that thought), sing the Briarwood Song, do some other fun, special, quirky, memorable stuff (see Parts II and III) and get excited about what we’ll be doing next week.
Why do we love Counselor of the Week? We love it because we love focusing on positivity! It’s awesome to hear our campers tell us how great their counselors are and to make sure we know why their counselor or junior counselor should be Counselor of the Week.
But, you ask, Briarwood’s staff is so amazing and Briarwood has so many deserving superstar counselors, how can we possibly choose? In other words, you ask, what are the criteria to win Counselor of the Week? Well, as we say with our tongues firmly in our cheeks and as our campers will surely respond when we ask that question from the stage, THERE ARE NO CRITERIA! (Of course, that’s not entirely true but it is true that we can’t recognize all of our amazing staff each week.)
Winners are announced and they come to the stage so they can be recognized by the whole camp. Smiles abound.
We love to spread the positivity. And you should see how excited the campers get when their counselor wins!
